The playground equipment was past its usefulness and was of little play value or appeal
Most of the pine bark was falling into the lower playground due to the slope
Some areas were considered unsafe, too old, or inappropriate for the space
Lawn was not growing at all and the freeplay areas were just dirt
There was little protection from the sun in the large precinct
The younger students had little imaginary play props
After school hours care also use the area and therefore older students were needed to be catered for
Whole area was looking tired and uninspired.
Outcome
A new playground structure that catered specifically for the developmental needs of Prep to Year 3 aged students
Freestanding equipment that can be used by After School Hours Care as well as for structured class activities
Rubber undersurfacing replaced the bark in the upper playground space
New retaining wall constructed to evenly hold the upper level. Steps in the centre to connect the upper from the lower playgrounds
Sails were applied to the existing upright posts allowing for all-weather play
A sandpit table was installed in the smaller pit to provide some cooperative and exploratory play opportunities
The climbing ladder with slide was replaced with a filled-in section with rockwall, making access Infill panels provide a fun way to prevent students from climbing up and down a high retaining wall.
